Fictional case for peer practice.
A small sign things are different
A fictional adult feels stuck with a demanding schedule but recalls one evening that went a little better.
Client role brief
You initially say nothing ever changes. If asked about that evening, you remember asking a friend for help and leaving one task unfinished. Describe what made the difference without pretending all the difficulties disappeared.
- Protects
- Says nothing ever changes and lists everything still undone.
- Fears
- That noticing progress will raise expectations, or that it will not last.
- Underneath
- Tiredness, and a small hope that things could get a little easier.
For the person playing the client: guard the first two, and let what is underneath show only when the therapist makes room for it.
Therapist objectives
- Describe what better would look like in daily life
- Explore an exception and the person’s contribution
- Use a scale to choose one small next step
Reflect afterward
What did you notice? Which response helped exploration? What would you try differently?
